St. Michael’s Printshop (SMP) exists to develop and grow printmaking as a participatory and accessible art form. SMP provides the facilities and opportunity for visual artists from across the province, Canada, and internationally, as well as for its local community, to learn and engage in the art of printmaking. One of the province’s few artist-run centres and the only artist-run printmaking studio, SMP promotes and continues to push the boundaries of printmaking as a contemporary art form. SMP provides space and specialized equipment for artists to work, educational opportunities through scholarships and workshops, and residencies through its visiting artist program.

This summer St Michael’s Printshop is looking to hire a person under 30* to help us in the coordinating of events, exhibitions, social media content, and the management of our collection. The position will entail coordinating events, working with artists, and creating social media content. St. Michael’s Printshop is seeking a motivated, dynamic, young person who enjoys working with people, and has experience with running events. The candidate should have experience with social media, coordinating events, and good people skills. The Gallery Assistant will be working closely and collaboratively with other SMP staff. The Gallery Assistant will be responsible for these tasks:

Art Collection

  • Shows artwork to potential buyers.

  • Maintains a record of inventory and sales of the collection.

Exhibitions

  • Coordinates with artists and volunteers.

  • Helps with install and takedown of exhibitions in the gallery.

  • Maintains the exhibit.

  • Coordinates public events at the gallery and in the printshop.

Communication

  • Creates promotional material for exhibitions and events.

  • Promotes events online through our social media channels.

  • Maintains the email newsletter.



Qualifications:

  • Foundational knowledge or interest in printmaking and our NL arts communities

  • Working knowledge of Google Workspace, Canva or Adobe Suite, and Social media platforms

  • Applicants must be under 30 years of age. ** This and the requirements below are requirements set by our funder Canada Summer Jobs, not St Michael’s.

  • Is a Canadian Citizen, permanent resident, or person on whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act

  • Recent immigrants are eligible if they are Canadian Citizens or permanent residents.
