St. Michael’s Printshop (SMP) exists to develop and grow printmaking as a participatory and accessible art form. SMP provides the facilities and opportunity for visual artists from across the province, Canada, and internationally, as well as for its local community, to learn and engage in the art of printmaking. One of the province’s few artist-run centres and the only artist-run printmaking studio, SMP promotes and continues to push the boundaries of printmaking as a contemporary art form. SMP provides space and specialized equipment for artists to work, educational opportunities through scholarships and workshops, and residencies through its visiting artist program.

 

This summer St. Michael’s Printshop is seeking a motivated, dynamic, student who enjoys working with people. The Gallery and Programming Assistant will work closely with senior staff to organize and maintain exhibitions, care for the artwork in our collections, maintain a record of inventory and sales of the collection, welcome visitors and artists into the printshop and gallery, and promote the printshop's activities online and within our community through our social media and other marketing channels.

 

Job Duties:

  1. Gallery and Operational Support

    1. Maintain exhibitions

    2. Welcome public into the gallery

    3. Show artwork to potential buyers

    4. Maintain a record of inventory and sales of the collection

    5. Assist in install and takedown of exhibitions in the gallery

    6. Input new works into archive and sales databases

    7. Coordinate public events at the gallery and in the printshop

    8. Sell goods to the public through our supply store

    9. Event and programming assistance

  2. Communications

    1. Manage information flow in a timely and accurate manner

    2. Communications including but not limited to social media, membership communications and emails

    3. Website development/upkeep

    4. Tracks inventory of website sales and informs ED


 

  1. Qualifications

    1. Foundational knowledge or interest in printmaking and our NL arts communities

    2. Basic administrative knowledge including: Working knowledge of G Suite, Google sheets or Excel, Wix, web integration, and familiarity with the Adobe Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, Adobe Express)

    3. Strong communication skills in both oral and written formats

    4. Organizational and time management skills

    5. Customer service and sales experience would be an asset

    6. Experience in event and programming coordination and assistance would be an asset

    7. This position is funded through the Summer Employment for Program for Students. Students entering or returning to postsecondary training in the upcoming academic year are invited to apply.
