COURSE DESCRIPTION AND OVERVIEW

In this short 3-day workshop, participants will have the opportunity to experiment with several etching techniques, including ink grounds and sandpaper aquatint. These low-impact processes allow printmakers to create imagery using low-toxicity methods that limit their exposure to harmful solvents.

No prior etching experience will be required, show up with your enthusiasm and a loose idea of imagery!

COURSE OBJECTIVES

  • Explore alternate methods for generating tone in etched imagery.

  • Reduce reliance on toxic materials (rosin, asphaltum) in producing plates.

  • Experiment with ink grounds.

  • Identify and select appropriate PPEs (Personal Protective Equipment) for particular processes.

DELIVERABLES

Participants in the workshop will have the opportunity to work through a small-format etching plate, creating a small edition by the end of the three weeks.
