We are excited to launch this year’s Don Wright Scholarship show!

FOMO ISLAND
is a series of prints that explore Canadian identity, master narratives, and cultural spectacle within a Newfoundland context. The work draws from Amery’s personal experiences as an artist from the mainland, and investigates juxtaposed symbols of an island paradise versus the reality of living on an island in the North Atlantic.

A big welcome to September’s Visiting Artist,
Virginia Mitford!
In case you missed it, a peek at Virginia’s year-end show from her Scholarship last year!
You might remember Virginia as our Don Wright Scholarship from last year. And that’s right. She was so amazing we just had to invite her back again!
Drop in and see her at work!
And her Visiting Artist workshop, you ask?
Transfer Lithography with Virginia Mitford
Evenings of Sept. 21 and 24th
$50.00, materials included
Using photocopies and traditional drawing materials, workshop participants will learn the basics of photo-transfer onto a stone, as well as some of the numerous ways to alter or add to that resulting image.
Night 1 will involve making a collage onto the stone with photocopied images, learning how to do a transfer with vegetable based solvent, and trying some drawing/erasing techniques.
Night 2 will include a demonstration in printing the image, and workshop participants will have a try at inking the stone and running the press.
To register, contact Mike (mike@stmichaelsprintshop.com)!

We are excited to announce that we are now accepting applications for next year’s celebrated Visiting Artist Program! Check out the Program Page for more details on requirements, benefits, and how to apply, and be sure to get those applications in by the end of October! Contact Studio Manager, Mike Connolly (mike@stmichaelsprintshop.com) with any questions!

Last year (2014) was our 40th anniversary! (Wow, right?)

In celebration of this huge milestone for SMP, we commissioned 5 artists – each unique, celebrated, and with their own historical relationship with the Printshop – to create 5 original works of art. The results exceeded our expectations and then some. If you are interested in purchasing any of these prints, please contact Lynn at lynn@stmichaelsprintshop.com, call 709 754 2931, or drop by the Printshop during our open hours.
